Helen Haines MP

Totally Renewable Yackandandah recently met with Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen MP, to talk about the achievements, barriers and solutions for community-run renewable energy groups. TRY has been hugely successful, helping get 60% of Yack’s energy usage supplied by renewables, taking on one of Australia’s first community batteries and offering support to over 100 other communities across Australia who want to go renewable.

As a volunteer-run organisation, TRY experiences barriers to community success but presented solutions to the Minister, including ARENA providing independent, action-focused guidance and low-cost finance options so everyone in the community can be supported to go renewable. We look forward to more productive conversations with the Minister on these solutions in the lead-up to the May Federal Budget.
