Who do you trust on climate change? – Opera House

The Greens NSW Campaign Coordinator, Lesa de Leau, today released the latest Greens campaign advertising highlighting the threat of sea level rises caused by climate change.

The ads will be rolled out across Sydney’s street furniture including telephone boxes and are complimented by a You Tube ad and online advertisements on major news websites.

The dramatic street ads show the Sydney Opera House and Luna Park engulfed by rising sea levels and urge people not to ignore the threat of climate change. The online version has the sound of an orchestra warming up as the drowned opera house comes into view.

Release of these ads comes as climate change has moved back to the centre of the election campaign. Despite a number of promises by the major parties neither Labor nor the Liberals are willing to put climate change action at the top of their list.

Renowned NASA scientist James Hansen says there is a very real threat and that we are facing “a rise in sea level measured in metres within a century.” Recent data on the extent of melting of summer ice in the Arctic has reinforced the fear that the Greenland ice sheets could disintegrate rapidly.

The threat of sea level rise, along with all the other problems of climate change mean we need urgent action to reduce emissions.
