Get involved in WA’s Youth Parliament

Hon Mia Davies MLA with 2022 Youth Member for Central Wheatbelt Connor Blight

Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA has called on young people living in the electorate of Central Wheatbelt to get involved in WA Youth Parliament, a program that empowers young people to have a voice in Parliament and in their community.

Ms Davies said the Youth Parliament program is a unique opportunity for young people to have their voice heard by policy makers, hone their debate skills and create the change they want to see.

“Regardless of who you are and what you are believe in, if you’re passionate about local issues and representing your community, “she said.

“Programs such as Youth Parliament empower young people to be involved in our democracy as they progress through their studies and career.”

“It is an opportunity to advocate for their local communities, speak on important issues and get a better understanding of the Parliamentary process.”

Throughout the week-long program, delegates will sit in the Legislative Assembly Chamber, joined by Members of Parliament who will take on the role of Speaker.

Participants also have the opportunity to meet State Members of Parliament throughout the program to develop their own political networks.

“During Youth Parliament, you will have the opportunity to learn about parliamentary processes, writing legislation, public speaking and leadership,” she said.

Applications are now open for the 2023 Youth Parliament, and close on the 26th of March 2023.
