Fleur Fitzsimons has been appointed as the new National Secretary of the PSA. The Government has confirmed it will amend the Crimes Act to give all citizens greater ability to arrest or detain thieves stealing from retail stories amid an increase in retail crime – the move is opposed by unions, Retail NZ, Employers and Manufacturers, and the Police Association. A bill has been introduced to extend the parliamentary term to four years – the proposal will need to go to a referendum.
