250 Additional Beds On Way: New Northern Health Complex To Be Built At Launceston
A brand new seven-storey tower at the Launceston General Hospital will be delivered under a re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government, significantly boosting capacity.
The new Northern Health Complex is a key part of the long-term 10-year $647.5 million redevelopment of the LGH.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Liberal Government has a strong plan to build better hospitals, and we’re determined to get on with that plan.
“This $240 million investment will deliver 250 additional beds and will be directly linked to the LGH, as part of our long-term masterplan while also enabling the co-location of services in the future,” the Premier said.
“We are already rebuilding the LGH through a new Northern Heart Centre, the expansion of the emergency department, and the construction of a new multi-storey car park.
“This new Northern Health Complex will future-proof the precinct for decades to come.
“It will not only secure capacity in the public system, but support the viability of further services in the North, helping to attract and retain health professionals, including specialists, to the region.
“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is building a better health system, completing new state-of-the-art upgrades at all major hospitals.
“Tasmanians are sick of the politics. They want action. They want stability. And they want it now.
“This election comes down to one choice: a strong Liberal team with a real plan or another merry-go-round of chaos and compromise.
“Let’s get on with it.
“Let’s finish the job for Tasmania.”
Construction is set to commence in 2028 following the completion of the new dedicated Northern Mental Health Precinct at Frankland Street.
The new Northern Health Complex will be funded through reprioritised capital from Marinus from the 2025-26 Budget and will form part of our capital investment profile in years not currently included in the Budget and Forward Estimates.
