$27.9M Boost for Perth Inner South Social Housing
The State Government is set to deliver 38 new social homes with a $27.9 million project in the inner southern suburb of St James.
The one, two and three-bedroom apartment complex was designed by Cameron Chisholm Nicol architects and is being built by West to West Group. On completion, the complex will be managed by a registered community housing provider.
The location of the complex provides a significant housing boost in close proximity to public transport, schools, employment, shopping and the East Victoria Park food and entertainment precinct.
Construction commencement on the project is imminent, with completion anticipated in late 2026.
Since its record $5.1 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, the State Government has added nearly 3,000 social homes across the State, with another 1,000 currently under contract or construction.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
“Our government is doing everything it can to bolster housing supply through our record $5.1 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures since 2021.
“Another 38 new social homes being delivered in St James will provide a critical boost to housing supply in the inner metropolitan area.
“The State Government has undertaken a range of measures including building more social homes, cutting planning red tape, releasing land supply, growing our construction workforce, reducing stamp duty, and incentivising owners of short-stay accommodation and vacant homes to put their properties on the rental market – all to boost affordable housing options for Western Australians.”
