307 New Nurses Join Tasmania’s Health System
Hundreds of new nurses are being welcomed to the State’s health system, as part of our plan to build a workforce that meets the demand for health services now and into the future.
More than 300 graduate nurses are joining roles across the Tasmanian Health Service, with the first wave of newly qualified registered nurses already taking up their positions over recent weeks.
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the graduates have joined Tasmania’s highly successful Transition to Practice program, which provides professional learning opportunities and support as nurses transition from student to registered health professional.
“Our 307 new graduate nurses will be employed across a range of health environments, including our major hospitals, district hospitals, community, and mental health services,” Minister Petrusma said.
“They will launch their careers across the State, with 138 at Hospitals South, 79 at Hospitals North, 59 at Hospitals North West, and 31 in Statewide Mental Health Services.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, the nurses who start under the Transition to Practice Program in 2025 and 2026 and maintain their employment with the THS for three years are eligible for a $10,000 scholarship.
“It is an exciting milestone for our Government to welcome the first group of nursing graduates that are eligible for this incentive, and I look forward to them taking up this opportunity to progress their careers with our health services right across the State.
“We highly value our nurses. They are the backbone of our health system and we will continue to recruit even more healthcare professionals as part of our biggest ever healthcare recruitment blitz.”
Graduates who have recently qualified as a Registered Nurse and have less than six months post-registration experience are eligible to apply for the Transition to Practice program.
