BREAKING: The ACT has just passed nation-leading legislation that prioritises healthcare over handcuffs.
Here in the ACT, we listen to the experts. And when it comes to drug law reform the expert advice is clear. Handing out criminal convictions for minor drug possession doesn’t work – and a healthcare focused approach is what delivers the best outcomes.
So that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re throwing away the handcuffs and reforming our drug laws to keep people out of the criminal justice system and get them into the heathcare system.
From October 2023 we will decriminalise the possession of personal use quantities of a range of illicit drugs. And instead, we’ll ensure drug users get the heath support they need.
This is world-leading, evidence-based policy. And it’s being implemented right here in Canberra by the ACT Labor Government.
