Act Now. Stay Secure. To Protect Yourself Online
The Australian Government is urging all Australians to take three simple actions to help protect themselves online, with the launch of the newest phase of the
Act Now. Stay Secure. cyber security awareness campaign.
The
Act Now. Stay Secure. campaign is about providing Australians with the knowledge and confidence needed to safely embrace digital technologies and the opportunities they offer.
The campaign highlights three simple behaviours that all Australians can adopt to protect themselves online: always set up multi-factor authentication when available; use unique and strong passphrases for every account; and install all software updates as soon as they are available to keep your devices secure.
National Cyber Security Coordinator, Lieutenant General Michelle McGuinness CSC, said the message is both timely and critical as Australians are being exposed to significant harm through cybercrime and continue to be vulnerable to cyberattacks.
According to the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre, a cybercrime is reported on average every six minutes, with more than 87,400 cybercrime reports made in the last financial year alone.
The
Act Now. Stay Secure. campaign will run nationally across digital video, television, cinema, social media, digital audio and print media.
Importantly, the campaign will also include dedicated resources for First Nations people and CALD communities, with translations in around 20 languages.

“As technology continues to advance, Australians are spending more time online. This brings great connectivity and many opportunities – but can also expose the community to significant harm.
“Our government is working every day to strengthen our cyber defences, but there are simple, effective steps that every Australian can take to keep themselves and their families safe online.
“Most cyber incidents are preventable, and basic defensive measures make a huge difference. Working together, we can keep our community safe online.”
“Australia is an attractive target for cyber criminals and I want to empower our citizens and businesses to improve their cyber resilience. This will help make our nation the most secure place to connect online.
“Protecting yourself online doesn’t have to be difficult. By undertaking simple cyber safe behaviours consistently, we can turn cyber security into an everyday habit – not an afterthought.
“Cyber security affects the lives of every Australian, and we all have a role to play in protecting ourselves and our loved ones online.
“By securing our online presence, we can all reap the immense benefits of unprecedented connectedness and digital innovation without exposing us to unmitigated risks.”
