Amazing work from the @actgreens! 🥳 The ACT is the first jurisdiction in Australia to ban no cause rent evictions 💪🏼 In addition to passing the removal of no cause evictions today in the Assembly, several other rental reforms were passed, including: 🏠Prohibiting landlords and agents from asking for or encouraging rent bids
🏠Allowing tenants greater freedom to grow their own food and to compost, and
🏠Creating a framework to support the future introduction of minimum housing standards for rental properties. Being a renter in the current rental market isn’t easy, rental conditions in the ACT are challenging, with rising rents and limited supply. If you’re a renter, these reforms will give you greater housing security as you’ll no longer need to fear being evicted without reason. The reforms will come into effect on 1 April 2023.
