We remember and reflect.
This morning @samantharatnam, @gabrielledevietri and I joined our community and our veterans at Barkly Gardens to pay our respects.
To those who were called to fight in battles far from home. To those who were lost, and those who returned home lost. To the communities that were forever changed.
To those who answered the call to serve a nation that did not recognise their place within it, nor the war their ancestors fought in its defence.
I am a proud grandson of grandparents who served. In remembering all those scarred by the horrors of war, we must say: never again.
A stroke of a pen should not decide if our troops are sent to war. We must always strive to find non-violent solutions to the conflicts of our time. We must avoid bloodshed.
Today, we recommit ourselves to peace. And we remind ourselves that the best way to remember the fallen, is to challenge ourselves and our country to be better in the present.
Not only for those we’ve lost, but for those why might yet save.
Lest we forget.
