Advancing Women & Girls This International Women’s Day
The Tasmanian Government is recognising the valuable contributions of all women and girls this International Women’s Day.
This year’s theme is March Forward: For ALL Women and Girls.
Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Jo Palmer, recognised the importance of creating a gender-equal Tasmania, where all women and girls have equal choice, opportunity and resources to participate fully in all aspects of life.
“Of course, gender equality cannot truly be achieved without the eradication of violence against women,” Minister Palmer said.
“Every Tasmanian woman and girl has the right to live free from all forms of violence, harassment and abuse, and all of us have the responsibility to help make this happen.
“Eliminating family and sexual violence is a top priority for the Tasmanian Liberal Government, and we are continuing to progress the implementation of Tasmania’s Third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan 2022-2027.
“An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to develop stronger, supported communities.”
Minister Palmer said the Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of International Women’s Day events.
“The Tasmanian Government has provided grants to support 15 not-for-profit organisations across Tasmania to host events to commemorate International Women’s Day,” Minister Palmer said.
“These events help foster connection and celebrate the valuable contribution of Tasmania’s women.”
International Women’s Day is held on 8 March each year and is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.
