Aid Activated for Brisbane, Scenic Rim Hardships
The Albanese and Crisafulli Governments are activating Personal Hardship Assistance to eligible residents in specific localities in Brisbane and Scenic Rim following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Support includes Emergency Hardship Assistance of $180 for individuals, up to $900 for a family of five or more to cover essentials like food, clothing and medicine.
Other grants are available to assist with replacing damaged household contents like white goods and linen, or for immediate needs if a household has lost power for five or more days.
Uninsured residents may also be eligible for income-tested assistance to reconnect damaged services, or to carry out structural repairs on their home to make it safe to live in.
Eligible residents can apply at
www.qld.gov.au/disasterhelp or by phoning the 24/7 Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.
Bundaberg and Toowoomba Councils have also been activated for DRFA assistance to support their counter disaster operations and the reconstruction of essential public assets, with 16 LGAs now receiving support in response to ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Support is available under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA),
Federal Minister for Emergency Management Jenny McAllister said it’s been a challenging time for communities impacted by the ex-Tropical Cyclone.
“This assistance will support eligible families in covering the cost of emergency essentials like food and medicines or replacing damaged white goods,” Minister McAllister said.
“As we continue understanding the full impacts of this event, we will continue activating the appropriate support where it’s required.”
“We know recovery will take time, but we are here for the long haul. We will continue working with the Queensland Government to support impacted communities.”
Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy encouraged residents in activated areas to check their eligibility and access any support available to them.
“The Crisafulli Government is right behind impacted communities as Queensland recovers from ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” Minister Leahy said.
“Personal Hardship Assistance provides immediate financial aid to get people back on their feet following a disaster.
“This funding covers emergency essentials like food, clothing and medicine, and grants for more severe impacts such as destroyed household goods and extended loss of services.
“If you’re eligible for support please apply now. For assistance with applications our Community Recovery team is available day and night on 1800 173 349.”
