Anand Meets Greenland, Denmark Foreign Ministers
The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a trilateral meeting with Vivian Motzfeldt, Greenland's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Research, and Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Denmark's Minister for Foreign Affairs, during her visit to Nuuk, Greenland.
The ministers discussed Canada opening its new consulate in Nuuk, a key commitment outlined in Canada's Arctic Foreign Policy and an important step forward in strengthening the ties between Canada and Denmark and Greenland. Minister Anand welcomed Greenland's intention to open a representational office in Canada and expressed Canada's support.
The ministers also spoke about economic opportunities, defence cooperation among the three countries and Arctic affairs, including the Kingdom of Denmark's Arctic Council chairship priorities and Indigenous inclusion and mobility.
Minister Anand reiterated that the future of Greenland is for Greenland and Denmark to determine and that Canada will continue to work with Denmark, Greenland and other Arctic partners based on the shared responsibility to ensure the security and resilience of the Arctic.
