Architects Named for Burnie Campus Redevelopment

The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its commitment to redevelop the North West Support School’s (NWSS) Burnie campus, with a local architectural firm now appointed for the project.

Tasmanian firm 6TY will work with the Project Working Group, which includes representatives from the school and its association, to develop the scope of works for the project.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the appointment is an important step forward for the project.

“The upgrades to the Burnie campus will ensure the school is a modern learning facility that’s able to respond to the diverse and sometimes complex needs of students,” Minister Palmer said.

“The works will feature a new hydrotherapy pool and additional learning and support spaces for students and staff, so the school can meet the needs of its growing enrolments.

“Support schools cater for students with significant disability, offering comprehensive individual learning in a caring and respectful environment.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’ve committed an extra $45 million to build the new NWSS in Devonport and upgrade the Burnie campus, bringing the total budget for these projects to $62.15 million.”
