Aspiring Leaders Of Future Visit Council
Almost 100 Year 5 and 6 students from local primary schools were welcomed to Council last week to bolster their local government studies. The half-day School Leadership Program at the Council’s offices in Windsor aims to enhance the student’s knowledge of democracy and encourages an interest in community leadership.
Students met Hawkesbury City Council Mayor Les Sheather, Deputy Mayor Sarah McMahon, Clr Eddie Dogramaci and Clr Peter Ryan. They were introduced to the different levels of government, and the responsibilities of local government, versus the State and Commonwealth governments.
Students learned about the Hawkesbury Local Government Area, testing their knowledge of our natural environment, our towns, our infrastructure, and community and Council facilities.
The students were given a range of activities to do, and took part in a mock Council meeting to determine whether Council should approve a local facility.
The School Leadership Program has been running since 2022 and has seen 660 Hawkesbury students learn more about Council.
