Abigail Boyd – The Life and Times of Juanita Nielsen, 2017
On October 10 2017, we hosted our annual Juanita Nielsen Memorial Lecture at the Surry Hills Community Centre.
Juanita Nielsen was the publisher of the independent paper NOW and an active campaigner who disappeared in July 1975. It is widely thought that Juanita was kidnapped and murdered because of her stand against over development and local corruption.
Since 2001 Lee Rhiannon has hosted the annual Juanita Nielsen Memorial Lecture to commemorate the life and times of Juanita Nielsen and the Green Bans.
Abigail Boyd delivered this year’s speech on the life of Juanita Nielsen. Abigail is a global finance layer, deputy secretary of the Australian Greens and co-convener of the Greens NSW Women’s Working Group.
