Adam Bandt: Australia’s Housing System is Broken
Housing in Australia is cooked. It is seriously messed up. We have lost sight of the basic fact that housing needs to be treated as a human right.
There are record numbers of people on the public housing waiting lists, and young people are locked out of the housing market by a system that rewards people more for buying their 5th and 6th home. That is the crazy situation we have at the moment because we no longer treat affordable housing as a human right.
It might be nice if you’re an investor, but everyone else gets locked out and screwed over, and that is what we need to fix with the Green New Deal.
