Adam Bandt’s first speech to Parliament (2010)
A note from Adam:
The truth is, progress is tough. And it isn’t always permanent.
When the Greens, Labor and independents worked cooperatively and shared power, like we did a decade ago in 2010, we got a lot done.
This was my first speech back then, and much of it holds true today.
Not long after this, we worked together and made Australia a world leader in tackling the climate crisis. We got Medicare dental for 2.7 million kids, and we secured billions for new clean energy projects.
Can you imagine if we took the lead again? We can and we must.
Every day we’re up against the combined might of the major parties with their corporate donations and the constant fear-mongering of the Murdoch media.
Once again we’ll need to fight to keep Melbourne Green, and I’ll need your support – https://greens.org.au/keepMelbgreen
