Bananas in Pyjamas back on screens thanks to the Greens

The Greens have welcomed today's announcement that the $50 million secured for the ABC to invest in Australian children and drama content last year will be invested in a fresh adaptation of the Bananas in Pyjamas right here in Adelaide.

Quotes attributable to Greens spokesperson for arts and communications, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young:

"Bananas in Pyjamas are absolute icons of Australian children's television, and thanks to the Greens' negotiations with the Government we'll be seeing them back on our screens.

"From living rooms across the country to screens around the world, these much-loved characters have been part of our national story. To see this investment in the production of Bananas in Pyjamas right here in Adelaide is incredibly exciting.

"This announcement means jobs for local crews, opportunities for local creatives, and a major boost for our state's reputation as a powerhouse for screen production.

"The Greens fought hard to secure this $50 million last year, and today's announcement shows exactly why that mattered.

"This is about backing Australian stories, Australian talent and content that families love.

"Homegrown content matters. It shapes how kids understand the world, gives them stories grounded in Australian experience, and keeps our creative industries thriving.

"It's exciting to see this being done in collaboration with Windmill Productions, the award winning South Australian production company.

"Bananas in Pyjamas has brought joy to Aussie families for decades. Now it's Adelaide's turn to help write its next chapter.
