Consultation on draft Territory Plan and District Strategies welcome

“The new Territory Plan and District Strategies will shape Canberra for decades to come. I welcome today’s release of the draft plans for consultation. It’s essential that community and stakeholders have their say and that Government embrace this feedback in a meaningful way,” said Jo Clay MLA, ACT Greens Planning Spokesperson.

“We need to protect our environment and act on climate change. We also need to look after our people and create affordable housing. All cities are facing these same challenges. It’s a key moment to make Canberra livable and sustainable.

“The draft planning legislation was over 700 pages. The draft Territory Plan and District Strategies are longer. It is really hard to consult on a topic that is so complex.

“The Directorate learned during consultation on the Planning Bill. They expanded targeted consultation to include key environmental stakeholders. General sessions were held for the community, as well as specific sessions on named topics, and sessions were recorded. Fact sheets and a video were also created.

“I was pleased to hear during Annual Reports questioning yesterday that the lessons learned during previous community engagement will be applied to consultation on the Territory Plan and District Strategies. I encourage every Canberran to have their say before 14 February 2023 on the Planning Reform YourSay page.”
