Greens support the Green Line

The Victorian Greens have announced their support for the Green Line Proposal.

The Green Line is a community-developed proposal for a linear park that follows the Sandringham Rail that would increase native habitat and tree canopy cover while improving walking and bike riding.

The proposal which extends from Birrarung (Yarra River) to Gardenvale was developed by community groups, Rewilding Stonnington, Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network and Glen Eira Emergency Climate Action Network.

The Greens have recently announced a $1 billion per year Zero Extinction Fund and $2.5 billion in funding for safer bike riding and walking, both of which would be used to fund the Green Line.

Quotes attributable to Victorian Greens MP for Prahran, Sam Hibbins:

“I was thrilled to be joined by Greens candidates for Southern Metropolitan Katherine Copsey, Caulfield Rachel Iampolski, Port Phillip Deputy Mayor Cr Tim Baxter, and members of the Green Line Alliance to declare the Greens support for the fantastic Green Line proposal.

“Thanks to everyone who has worked on the Green Line proposal, making it a reality will be a priority of ours in the next Parliament, to help restore our local environment, protect native species and make our community more liveable.”
