Brandis: Having a plebiscite will cost a lot more money than dealing with the matter in the Parliament.
Simms: Why precisely has this particular issue being singled out [to be put to a plebiscite]?
Brandis: I think it’s an issue of unique sensitivity, Senator.
Simms: How so?
Brandis: Um, I, I can’t really… I, I, I can’t elaborate.
Simms: But the Parliament could just amend the Marriage Act, couldn’t it.
Brandis: Yes.
