Art is fundamental to Indigenous cultures.
It allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to share stories, connect to Country, strengthen cultures and communities, and to access a range of employment and economic opportunities.
But in 2019-20 alone, over half of the total spending on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander souvenirs was on inauthentic Indigenous-style products.
It has to end. Indigenous artists and businesses need better protections from fake art.
We’re going to protect First Nations intellectual property, and will work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to strengthen authentic and ethically produced First Nations arts.
