Following a landslide victory, the Rudd Labor Government swung into action on climate change by ratifying the Kyoto Protocol, and delivered the first national apology for the Stolen Generations. It also committed to ‘closing the gap’ between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and set major reforms in health, education, industrial relations, social security and infrastructure policy, while steering a steady course through the Global Financial Crisis.
