Labor: uphold human rights and strengthen our security
Australia’s reputation overseas has taken a battering over the last decade: rushing into the Iraq War without UN backing, refusing to sign up to the Kyoto Protocol to tackle climate change, the mandatory detention of refugees. Robert McClelland, Labor’s Foreign Affairs spokesman, wants to engage Australia better internationally to ensure human rights are upheld and national security is strengthened.
