Together, let’s move Australia forward

Today, I fulfil the pledge I made on the day I became Prime Minister. On that day, I acknowledged it is the right of every Australian to vote for the Prime Minister, and that in the very near future I would ensure all Australians could exercise their right.

I now seek my own mandate to move Australia forward.

I’ve just met with the Governor General, Quentin Bryce and asked her to call an election for August 21.

The Australian people will elect the Prime Minister of their choice on that day.

This election will revolve around a clear choice: whether we want Australia to move forwards or backwards.

I believe we must move forward by building a sustainable Australia, an Australia with a stronger economy, and an Australia with first rate health and education services.
