AWS - Flood Advice 1 - Waterhouse River

LOCATION/S AFFECTED: Waterhouse River

INFORMATION CURRENT AS AT: 10:24 am ACST on Sunday 1 February 2026

ALERT LEVEL: Advice - An incident has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA:

• You may become isolated

• Livestock and other animals and pets may become isolated

• Fast flowing flood water can contain objects that may injure or trap you

• Flood water may contain toxic waste, chemicals and dangerous animals

ACTION STATEMENTS:

• Prepare your household emergency plan and kit now

• Monitor conditions via www.bom.gov.au/nt/warnings

• Avoid the area - do not enter flood waters

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BESWICK BRIDGE OVERNIGHT SUNDAY INTO MONDAY

Moderate rainfall observed overnight Saturday into Sunday has resulted in renewed river level rises along the Waterhouse River. Further moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Sunday and into next week which may cause further river level rises and minor flooding at Beswick Bridge from overnight Sunday into Monday.

Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall. The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End, Barkly and Tanami Districts and Gulf of Carpentaria Rivers.

Waterhouse River:

Minor flooding is possible along the Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge.

The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is currently at 5.55 m and steady, below the minor flood level. The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge may reach around the minor flood level (7.70 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

Safety Advice:

• Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.

• Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.

• Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

• Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
