ALERT LEVEL: Advice - There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA:

• You may become isolated

• Livestock and other animals and pets may become isolated

• Fast flowing flood water can contain objects that may injure or trap you

• Flood water may contain toxic waste, chemicals and dangerous animals

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT NITMILUK CENTRE

Moderate rainfall observed overnight Saturday into Sunday has resulted in renewed river level rises along the Katherine River, where minor flooding is occurring at Nitmiluk Centre. With forecast rainfall, further renewed river level rises are possible and the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may remain around the minor flood level for the remainder of Sunday and into Monday.

River levels at Katherine Bridge are expected to remain below the minor flood level for the next few days.

A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End, Barkly and Tanami Districts and Gulf of Carpentaria Rivers.

Katherine River Gorge Road:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre.

The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 3.13 m and steady, with minor flooding. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may remain around the minor flood level (3.00 m) for the remainder of Sunday and into Monday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

Safety Advice:

• Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.

• Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.

• Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

• Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
