Bass Highway Duplication Welcomed
The Tasmanian Government welcomes the Federal Liberals’ $80 million commitment to the Bass Highway.
In conjunction with the State Government’s $20 million investment, the funding will complete the duplication of the Bass Highway between Launceston and Deloraine.
Minister for Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, said the funding would help deliver more of the Bass Highway vision.
“The Tasmanian Government has a 10-year Bass Highway Corridor Strategy to duplicate the Bass Highway from Launceston to Devonport,” Minister Vincent said.
“This funding will duplicate the Bass Highway to a consistent, four-lane dual highway between Launceston and Deloraine, including intersection upgrades and additional vehicle rest areas.
“Tasmania’s North is a highly productive region of Tasmania, and the Bass Highway is the key freight link for our ports and the agriculture, forestry and mining industries.
“While the Bass Highway is a major freight artery, it is also a vital connection for family and friends in the communities of Northern Tasmania.”
The Tasmanian Government calls on Federal Labor to match this commitment noting they previously withdrew funds from the Bass Highway.
“Federal Labor snatched away this funding in late 2023 and I would like to see them recommit to this vital piece of infrastructure for the North of the State,” Minister Vincent said.
“Tasmania’s infrastructure pipeline over the next 10 years will surpass $30 billion, ensuring we can continue to grow our economy, create jobs and deliver the infrastructure Tasmania needs now and into the future.”
