Beatles MA Returns Online at University of Liverpool
Beatles enthusiasts and scholars around the world will soon be able to ‘come together’ to study the Fab Four, as the University of Liverpool’s unique Masters course returns as an online programme.
Launching in September 2026, the part-time MA The Beatles, Heritage and Culture will examine the enduring cultural and economic impact of the band on Liverpool and the surrounding City Region.
Students will consider how their legacy continues to impact areas such as urban planning and regeneration, civic design, heritage, and the tourism and leisure industries, as well as the music and creative industries.
An optional Special Project module will allow students two weeks in Liverpool, attending daily lectures and site visits linked to the Fab Four’s history, culture and heritage. Students will have the opportunity to personally interact with lecturers, peers, industry practitioners, government officials, historians and scholars.
“I am delighted for the opportunity to re-introduce the MA The Beatles, Heritage and Culture”, said Dr Holly Tessler, Progamme Director.
“Offering the programme as an online degree will enable people from all around the world to study Liverpool’s unique Beatles environment, history and heritage from scholars and practitioners who are immersed in this work.”
The University of Liverpool is a renowned authority on academic study of the Beatles. Staff in the Department of Music sit on the City of Liverpool’s Beatles Legacy Group (BLG) and work with local government leaders – including the city-region Mayor and Lord Mayor’s offices – on Beatles heritage and tourism policy. Dr Tessler co-edits The Journal of Beatles Studies, which is published by Liverpool University Press.
