I had the pleasure of meeting these once “invisible” voices of Aurukun during their trip to Canberra and Parliament.
Sharina and Tonia are evidence First Australians are willing to speak up and want to be heard by their government as they met with multiple ministers this week to speak about issues and solutions for their community.
But what they, and other First Australians do not want is a “we’ll take care of you”, top-down, bureaucratic approach.
Labor has one chance to get this Voice to Parliament right, and it better listen up.
