The government has finally announced a Universal Service Obligation (USO) to force mobile providers to guarantee coverage in regional and remote areas. For the last 18 months we’ve been tenaciously working with the Minister and her team, pushing for a real, enforceable USO so this is a win—but only if they actually deliver!
Right now, mobile coverage in the regions is bloody awful—mountains block signals along the coast, and out west there’s no coverage at all. Telstra was meant to serve the bush, but ever since privatisation, they’ve dodged their responsibilities and left regional Australians stranded.
We MUST ensure this USO is enforced—not just another empty election promise. The people of rural Australia deserve reliable mobile service.
