Boyce Backs Boost To Gladstone’s Vocational Education
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce was in Gladstone at the new Trinity College high school campus today to announce that an elected LNP Government will provide $2.1 million to support the development of the college’s vocational education hub.
The funding will go towards refurbishing the former TAFE trades buildings to create a dedicated vocational trades training centre that will provide hands-on training in high-demand industries, including light and heavy steel fabrication and electrotechnology, as well as hospitality courses.
It will also deliver critical electrical upgrades to bring the facility up to safety standards, as well as a refurbished canteen to transform it into a community hub shared by students and local organisations including the Gladstone Athletics Club and Gladstone Rugby Union (GRUFC Goats).
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said the investment will deliver long-term benefits for students and the broader Gladstone region.
“This significant investment from the LNP is a major win for Gladstone, ensuring our local students have access to world-class training facilities and, most importantly, the skills they need to succeed in trades and technical fields,” Mr Boyce said.
“Formerly a CQUniversity TAFE site, the facility sat empty for seven years before Trinity College purchased it to establish a new high school campus, which opened this year.
“This funding will see the new vocational training centre, in partnership with CQUniversity, help to bridge the skills gap and ensure students gain the qualifications and experience needed to enter Central Queensland’s growing workforce, particularly in emerging industries.
“Importantly, the courses will be available not only to Trinity College students but also to students from other local high schools, increasing access to valuable vocational training.
“The opening of this training centre, alongside the refurbished canteen, will not only provide students with a better learning environment but will also serve as a valuable resource for the wider community.
“The upgrades at the college will ensure that the next generation of tradespeople and technicians are ready to meet the demands of Queensland’s rapidly evolving industries.”
