Broadmeadow Renewal Gains Momentum
Following the NSW Government’s recent announcement of the first rezoning within the precinct, the 313-hectare site is now officially underway, with capacity to deliver 20,000 homes and 15,000 jobs over the next three decades.
Property Council Hunter and Central Coast Regional Director Nuatali Nelmes said today’s event was a timely opportunity to harness the momentum and set the stage for delivery.
“Broadmeadow can be the catalyst for a new generation of housing, jobs and investment in Newcastle and the Hunter, and we now have the right ingredients to get moving,” Ms Nelmes said.
“The appointment of the Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC) as the delivery lead gives this project the missing co-ordination function within government, which will be crucial to the success of this nationally significant site.
“Recognised on Infrastructure Australia’s national priority list in 2020, then followed by a $6.7 million business case by the NSW Government that was finalised in 2023, it’s time to act with housing, transport and infrastructure as priorities,” she said.

“Rezoning is a critical milestone, but the job is just beginning. We need early infrastructure investment, coordinated governance, and the confidence that Broadmeadow can anchor Newcastle’s role in the future high-speed rail network,” Ms Nelmes said.
“This is a once-in-a-generation chance to deliver growth at scale in the Hunter, and it’s essential we work together to turn vision into reality,” she said.
