Canada-Ecuador FTA Talks Conclude

Today, we recognize the conclusion of substantive negotiations for a Canada-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement (FTA), following the sixth round of negotiations in January 2025.

Substantive negotiations have resulted in a modern and comprehensive FTA that will include chapters addressing National Treatment and Market Access for Trade in Goods, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Technical Barriers to Trade, Good Regulatory Practices, Government Procurement, Competition Policy, State-Owned Enterprises, Investment, Cross-Border Trade in Services, Financial Services, Temporary Movement of Business Persons, Telecommunications, Digital Trade, Environment, Labour, Trade and Gender Equality, Trade and Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, Trade and Indigenous Peoples, and Transparency, Anti-Corruption and Responsible Business Conduct.

The Canada-Ecuador FTA marks a significant step forward in strengthening our bilateral relations governed by shared values, including our commitment to an open, inclusive, and rules-based international trading system. It will underpin the continued growth of our commercial partnership for years to come for the benefit of our respective workers, consumers, businesses and entrepreneurs.

In order to bring the Agreement into force, we commit to commencing our respective domestic procedures necessary for signature and ratification of the FTA, with the objective of bringing the agreement into force as soon as possible.
