Canowindra Opens Town Centre, River Precinct

The Canowindra Town Centre & River Precinct Activation Project was officially opened on Friday, 20 June 2025 by Cabonne Mayor Kevin Beatty, the Hon. Andrew Gee MP, Member for Calare, and Mr Phil Donato MP, Member for Orange.

The Canowindra Town Centre & River Precinct Activation Project is a co-funded project by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions Fund, and Cabonne Council.

This transformative project celebrates the unique character of Canowindra, while delivering significant upgrades to public spaces for residents and visitors alike, supporting the growth of the town as a local business and tourism hub.

“The project reflects the town’s identity and ambition”, said Clr Kevin Beatty, Mayor Cabonne Council.

“This project is about more than just infrastructure. It’s about creating welcoming spaces that honour Canowindra’s heritage, connect people to the river, and support the local economy. It’s a proud moment for the whole community.”

The Hon. Andrew Gee MP, Member for Calare is delighted that the grant he advocated for through the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund has gone towards helping give Canowindra a significant boost as its recovery continues.

“The storm and floods that hit Canowindra in November 2022 were devasting for the local community. It took a huge toll on residents and also businesses”, he said.

“It will showcase Canowindra and what makes it such a special part of the region.”

Mr Philip Donato, MP, Member for Orange believes the investment will attract tourism and engage locals to explore the history and culture of Canowindra.

“The $1m-plus grant from the NSW Government is welcome and truly adds to the vibrancy, heritage and attraction of this beautiful town”, he said.
