Labor came to Government in 2022 with a plan to build tens of thousands of social and affordable homes through the Housing Australia Future Fund (aka the "HAFF").
Despite opposition and delay from the Liberals, Nationals and Greens, the HAFF is up and running and delivering more homes at scale. Across our programs, 5,000 social and affordable homes are complete with a further 25,000 in construction and planning.
The latest round, which Housing Australia opened last Friday, will deliver 21,000 more social and affordable homes across Australia (for context the Liberals built 373 in a decade) - its biggest round yet.
I have been advised that there has been massive interest in the latest round of the HAFF. In just 5 days, we've had expressions of interest for over 10,000 homes.
Let me be clear, the HAFF is doing exactly what it was designed to do - backing strong projects and unlocking supply for more social and affordable homes.
It's appalling then that just today, the Shadow Minister confirmed that the Liberals would cut the HAFF - a program supported across the entire housing sector, and which is helping Australians on the edge of our housing market including women and children escaping domestic violence and veterans. It's clear the Liberals haven't learnt a thing from the last election.
For organisations still interested, applications remain open, and organisations ready to build are encouraged to keep applying.
