CLP Boosts Trade, Investment in Northern Territory
The Finocchiaro CLP Government is keeping the momentum going-this week hosting the Ministerial Council on Trade and Investment in Darwin to show the nation our economy is turning the corner.
Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill said following on from last month’s successful inaugural Investment NT Summit and a positive CommSec report, it was an opportune time to host the Ministerial Council.
“As part of our year of action, certainty and security, I welcomed Federal Trade Minister Don Farrell and trade ministers from each state and territory for the 5th Ministerial Council on Trade and Investment (MCTI) Program.
“The MCTI program provided another important opportunity to showcase the Territory’s opportunities and deepen Australia’s collaborative approach to trade and investment priorities.
“Right on Asia’s doorstep, the NT is perfectly positioned to drive trade and attract investment.
“Strategic investment in energy, mining, defence, marine services and infrastructure is turning the economy around under the CLP’s Rebuilding the Economy Strategy,” said Ms Cahill.
Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell said, “Australia is a trading nation and our strong network of trade agreements and partnerships support one in four Australian jobs.
“By bringing the nation’s trade ministers together in Darwin, right on the doorstep of a key trading partner in Southeast Asia, we are showing the world that we are open for business.”
The MCTI program included a guided cruise of Darwin Harbour highlighting several key sites to further demonstrate the Territory’s strengths and capabilities.
Ms Cahill added, “A powerhouse project, the Middle Arm Precinct cements Darwin’s role in the region and builds on our LNG strength.
“Further development will transform it into a precinct where proponents could develop industrial facilities to support current and emerging industries.
“The Northern Territory is a critical defence, national security and maritime hub for the Australian Defence force and key maintenance centre of assets deployed to Northern Australia.
“The Territory is powering ahead with projects that transform our economy and deliver for the nation.”
