Coalition Backs In Further Practical Environmental Projects To Accelerate Conservation
The Liberal and National Parties have again shown that they are the only political parties with a serious plan to protect the environment, after committing today to nearly $40 million in new funding for conservation groups that have been ignored by the Albanese Government.
Today’s funding swells the Coalition’s pre-election commitments to new environment funding to nearly $120 million, and comprises of:
In part, these significant investments reinstate funding that the Labor Government has cut throughout the last three years.
It will mean Conservation Volunteers Australia will be able to restore on-the-ground programs that preserve woodlands, wetlands, and protect native species. It will also mean that OzFish and Oceans IQ will be able to continue their expanded work on the restoration of waterways and fish habitats and oceans education respectively, while the Coalition will establish the Australian Recyclers Accreditation Program to promote accountability and quality within the recycling sector that industry says is desperately needed.
This adds to the $50 million the Coalition has committed to tackling the growing scourge of lithium-ion battery fires, and to the close to $30 million that the Coalition has announced towards local environment initiatives this term. These initiatives include:
Visiting Port Sorell with Liberal Candidate for Braddon, Mal Hingston, Shadow Environment Minister Jonno Duniam says that today’s announcement builds on the Coalition’s longstanding legacy of delivering positive, practical outcomes that are based on local, grassroots actions and solutions to support environmental protection and enhancement.
“These significant investments are a reflection of the Coalition’s priorities to fund practical measures that will tangibly help the environment. They will direct funding to preserving landscapes and waterways and enabling more volunteers to work on the ground to protect their local areas – not to pointless agendas that won’t help the environment,” Senator Duniam said.
“In electorates like Braddon, this will be a fantastic way to activate volunteers to conserve and enhance our natural environment, including our precious waterways,” Liberal Candidate for Braddon, Mal Hingston said.
Today’s announcement also comes after a series of other important legislative and policy pledges from the Coalition in the Environment portfolio. Foremost among these are commitments to:
The Labor Party has failed on the environment, botching their legislative agenda, failing to sensibly balance environmental and economic priorities, and consistently prioritising green voters in the inner cities.
A Dutton Government’s approach to the environment portfolio will be focused on making practical improvements for Australia’s magnificent and unique natural environment while also advancing our economic and social needs to get Australia back on track.
