Coalition Backs Urgent Bulk Billed Primary Care

The Coalition supports Australians getting improved access to bulk billed urgent healthcare through Urgent Care Clinics.

It has never been harder or more expensive to see a doctor than right now under the Albanese Labor Government.

GP bulk billing rose consistently under the Coalition’s time in government to more than 88%. Under Labor, it has fallen in every single electorate across the country – Nationally, it has dropped to 77%.

As a result, Australians are covering 45% more of the cost to see a GP on average, as out-of-pocket costs have risen to the highest level on record under Labor.

This crisis has forced more than 1.5 million Australians to avoid seeing their doctor in 2023-24 because they just cannot afford it under Labor.

This reduction in primary care access has serious implications for emergency departments, placing even further demand on already under pressure hospital systems.

The Coalition is committed to addressing Labor’s primary care crisis and ensuring all Australians have timely and affordable access to a GP.

We recognise the clear need for better access to urgent bulk billed services.

A Dutton Coalition Government will deliver Urgent Care Clinics as they were intended – focused on relieving pressure on local hospitals and providing real access to bulk billed urgent healthcare.

The Coalition will continue existing Urgent Care Clinics and we have already announced that we will establish additional Clinics in Sorell, Cairns, Maitland and Reid. We will make further announcements in due course.
