Community Ties Remain Strong At George Town
The Tasmanian Liberal Government has spent two days meeting with and listening to the East Tamar community.
Ministers spent time with healthcare workers, police, farmers, tradies, students, businesses and community organisations across George Town and the East Tamar.
Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said it was fantastic to hear from people across the community about what matters most to them and what makes this community thrive.
"Our Government is focussed on delivering for Tasmanians, and we are working with our regional communities to keep our economy strong," the Premier said.
"It was fantastic to join Education Minister, Jo Palmer, to unveil the new concept plans for the $15.1 million redevelopment of South George Town Primary School and express our firm commitment to the Tamar Irrigation Scheme.
"We recognise the community is dealing with a level of uncertainty, but our commitment to the major industrials is strong. We know how important the major industrials are for the George Town community and that's why we established the Bell Bay Response Team.
"I was pleased to join all three tiers of Government at the latest Response Team meeting on Monday, with robust discussions around the future of major industrials in the region."
Liberal Member for Windermere, Nick Duigan, said it was great to showcase the beautiful East Tamar region to his colleagues.
"The Windermere electorate is a strong supporter of Tasmania's economy, and the hardworking people who live in this region are critical to the State's future," Minister Duigan said.
"The past two days have provided an important opportunity to celebrate the region and look to its future.
"It was a fantastic way to spend my last day at work before going on medical leave."
