Culture Forum Boosts Aboriginal-led Decision Making

Aboriginal Advisory Groups (AAGs) from across Western Australia will come together at this week’s Culture at the Heart (CATH) Forum, to share insights and to help shape a coordinated approach to advising government.

Aboriginal Advisory Groups (AAGs) from across Western Australia will come together at this week’s Culture at the Heart (CATH) Forum, to share insights and to help shape a coordinated approach to advising government.

Established by the Aboriginal Advisory Council of WA (AACWA), the Forum plays a key role in driving better outcomes for Aboriginal people through meaningful engagement and shared accountability.

It’s a reflection of AACWA’s leadership and commitment to advancing the principles of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and the WA Aboriginal Empowerment Strategy 2021-2029.

The National Agreement, established in 2020, represented a landmark commitment, developed in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, for governments to work in new, genuine, and shared ways.

At the heart of the Agreement are four Priority Reforms, which aim to transform how governments engage with our communities. These reforms are essential to achieving the socio-economic outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.

It was decided by AACWA that each Culture at the Heart Forum will focus on a specific Priority Reform. This year, the focus is on Priority Reform 3: Transforming Government Organisations.

The Forum is hosted by AACWA in partnership with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. The Honourable Don Punch MLA, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, will officially open the Forum on Thursday, 26 June.

A Sundowner Event will follow in the evening, offering an opportunity for members of the Aboriginal Affairs Coordinating Committee to engage directly with Aboriginal leaders and advisors from across the state.
