Our future healthcare workers need our help.
Today I stood with medical, pharmacy, OT, physio, podiatry, psychology, medical radiation and exercise physiology students to call on the Govt to provide means-tested support to all the healthcare students undertaking 1000's of hours of mandatory unpaid placements.
The Govt already does this for our future nurses, midwives, teachers and social workers (as they should).
We recently had this costed, and it is affordable.
The cost of not doing it is becoming increasingly clear: students sleeping in cars, skipping meals and dropping out altogether. And only people from well-off backgrounds able to study these degrees.
We need these healthcare workers, in aged care, in our hospitals, in the NDIS and in the community. If you feel the same, consider signing the petition to ask the Govt to fund unpaid placement for those in need. Link in bio.
