Day of Mourning for Bondi Terror Attack Victims

On Thursday, 22 January, Australians will come together for a National Day of Mourning to honour the victims and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

The theme chosen by the Chabad Community in Bondi, “Light will win, a gathering of unity and remembrance”, offers a message of hope and unity as our nation reflects and moves forward together.

In recognition of the National Day of Mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast at all Commonwealth and Victorian Government buildings and from dusk, landmark buildings across Victoria will also be lit up in white as a symbol of light as we move forward as a nation.

A multifaith vigil to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Bondi Beach terrorist attack will be held at 11.15am on Thursday, 22 January at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral.

The City of Stonnington will fly flags at half-mast at Malvern Town Hall, and we encourage our community to observe the day in ways that are meaningful to them.

At 7.01pm AEDT, residents are invited to observe a minute of silence to remember the 15 innocent lives lost, and to reflect on the values of kindness, compassion and unity.

Council encourages acts of remembrance and goodwill, whether that be spending time with family and friends, checking in on neighbours, supporting local businesses, or leaving a candle at a window or doorstep as a symbol of solidarity.

As a community, we pause to remember, to mourn, and to reaffirm our shared commitment for light to triumph over darkness.
