Devonport Library Launches Open Library Access Trial

Devonport Library is now accessible outside of business hours and on weekends, following the launch of the Open Library Access trial.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said library members with busy schedules, work commitments or family responsibilities can now use the library during unstaffed hours.

“Our libraries are the lifeblood of our regions, and this innovative self-service model allows the community to visit the library at their convenience, providing greater flexibility and accessibility,” Minister Palmer said.

“The new service extends library access to Open Library Access members from 7am to 9pm, 7 days a week.

“Staff will continue to be available during normal opening hours to provide the same service you know and love.

“Safety is an absolute priority, and to ensure a secure environment, we have upgraded systems such as CCTV, security, duress alarms, sensor lights and cameras.

“Extended opening hours, already available at Penguin Library, provide flexibility for our community members and support our commitment to lifting literacy and lifelong learning.

“An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to develop stronger communities and enhance our regions.”

Members aged 18 and over can use Open Library Access after completing an induction.
