Australians are the world's biggest losers when it comes to gambling. It's a predatory system - the industry's business model depends on people losing.
What makes it even more disturbing is the ongoing acceptance of donations, gifts and perks from gambling companies by some MPs and Senators. When elected representatives maintain ties like this to the very industry they are supposed to regulate, it becomes much less surprising that gambling reform, such as restricting or banning gambling advertising, continues to stall.
