More than 2.9 million Australians carry, on average, more than $27,000 in HECS debt.

This week we're debating a bill to set up a new body to oversee Commonwealth contributions to the cost of education - but it's not been tasked at looking at how much the C'wealth is charging students. By delaying its own pledge to undo the Morrison-era Job-Ready Graduates scheme, the government is retaining a punitive and inequitable policy that's damning students to decades of excessive debt.

Last night the govt refused my amendment to this legislation. I'll keep fighting the Albanese govt to dismantle JRG.
