Emergency Management Commissioner Appointed

The Victorian Government has appointed Tim Wiebusch ESM as Victoria’s Emergency Management Commissioner.

Minister for Emergency Services Vicki Ward congratulated Mr Wiebusch on his appointment for a term of five years starting today.

Mr Wiebusch is currently Acting Emergency Management Commissioner and is a highly experienced emergency management professional with more than 30 years’ experience within emergency services and government agencies.

He has extensive experience leading multi-agency and sector responses to major emergencies. Events he’s played a critical coordinating role in include the 2019-20 Eastern Victoria bushfires, June 2021 floods and storms, October 2022 Victorian floods, the 2024 severe weather events and this year’s bushfires.

As Chief Officer Operations for Victoria’s State Emergency Service since 2017, Mr Wiebusch was responsible for overseeing the development of volunteer specialist and incident management capabilities.

His experience extends to supporting transition from response to recovery, including relief operations alongside Emergency Recovery Victoria.

Mr Wiebusch is also an accredited State Response Controller and performed key emergency management roles during the COVID-19 pandemic and as a State Controller for cyber and energy emergencies.

“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Wiebusch as Emergency Management Commissioner. He is a seasoned leader with extensive experience across some of the state’s biggest emergency responses.”

“Mr Wiebusch will do a fantastic job to ensure Victorians are prepared for, can respond to and recover from emergencies.”

As stated by Emergency Management Commissioner Tim Wiebusch ESM

“Keeping the Victorian community safe and ensuring the community understand their shared responsibility before, during and after emergencies is a responsibility I take seriously.”

“As the Emergency Management Commissioner, I look forward to working closely our many dedicated staff and volunteers within agencies and departments to build the communities confidence in our sector’s preparedness, response, relief and recovery capabilities across all emergencies.”
