Expanded Hydrotherapy Pool Access For Patients On North West

Expanded Hydrotherapy Pool Access For Patients On North West

Community access to hydrotherapy pools in Burnie and Devonport will be available under a re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said two hydrotherapy pools are being delivered as part of the Government’s $62.5 million investment in the new North West Support School (NWSS) campus in Devonport and the upgrade proposed for the Burnie campus.

“While the Tasmanian Health Service has been providing services at community pools since 2020, we will ensure these two pools will be available to the community, providing greater access for patients who require therapy facilities as part of their health journey,” Premier Rockliff said.

“A Memorandum of Understanding will be developed between the Department of Health and the Department for Education, Children and Young People.

“The Department of Health will manage referrals, including from private providers, to ensure the needs of NWSS students are prioritised.”

Construction is set to begin on both campuses in 2026.

While Labor and the Greens argue, we are delivering on our clear plan to deliver better healthcare.

And we’ve got more to do.

This election comes down to one choice: a strong Liberal team with a real plan or another merry-go-round of chaos and compromise.

Let’s get on with it and let’s finish the job, for Tasmania.

Alison Jarman, Mayor of Devonport City Council, said she welcomes the sensible decision by the Minister to unlock access to the Support School’s hydrotherapy pools for public use.

“Health and well being for all is an important component of Devonport City Council’s own strategy and whilst I understand the pools will be used for the benefit of the support school students first and foremost, allowing access, when available for the community, will be an important factor for all,” Mayor Jarman said.

Teeny Brumby, Mayor of Burnie City Council, said she warmly welcomed today’s announcement regarding community access to hydrotherapy pools in both Burnie and Devonport.

“This has been a matter I’ve advocated for, and it is pleasing to see collaboration between Ministers and departments resulting in an outcome that prioritises both student needs and broader community health. Ensuring that these facilities are accessible beyond the school environment is a significant and positive step forward,” Mayor Brumby said.

“Hydrotherapy plays a vital role in rehabilitation and wellbeing, and having dedicated facilities available for referral based access will make a real difference to many individuals across our region.

“We also look forward to the much needed upgrade of the hydrotherapy pool at the North West Support School Burnie, which is not only vital for students and staff but an important investment in inclusive infrastructure for our city. This is a great outcome for Burnie and the North West.”
